Nature Inspired

Set on a secluded, formerly abandoned farm site in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, this 21,000-square-foot, two-story office building was designed for a developer aiming to attract corporate tenants. The site is surrounded by wetlands and dense woods. This unique location presented both challenges and opportunities—limited access, a sensitive environmental context, and a strong connection to nature.

Our design blends modern corporate functionality with respect for the land’s history and natural beauty. The building features flexible, multi-tenant layouts, optimized parking, and future expansion capability. It embraces its surroundings through the use of natural materials, including local stone, modular brick, and Nichiha cladding.

Large windows and a rhythmic façade bring in natural daylight and frame views of the surrounding woods. An asymmetrical entry canopy defines the arrival experience and accommodates future growth. Inside, reclaimed barn wood from the original farm adds a tangible connection to the site’s past and is featured prominently in the lobby. A covered outdoor patio, located next to the break room, offers a space for meetings and social gatherings. It maintains a strong visual and physical link to the wooded setting.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can meet market-driven needs while honoring the site’s history. It also enhances the natural environment—a balance that makes this office development stand out in both form and function.
